Bristol 96 Photographs

This picture is out of order. On the passage between Milford Haven and Dublin, with a forcast of Storm 10 imminent and with a large residual swell from the previous blow, we found that the mast had broken at deck level. In fact it was a metal king post/mast step that fractured. We were able to brace the foot with a cross lashing on the staunchions and carried on towards Arklow as a port of refuge. The forcast was very alarming and when we closed Arklow in the dark, to add to our alarm we found both the Banks Lanby and the harbour entrance light out. There was a happy ending though fortunately, we made Arklow with a couple of hours to spare before the gale arrived and wer able to get the mast step repaired as you can see.
